Fela Kuti
Fela Kuti is the one who created AfroBeat. AfroBeat is a modern form of danceable, African classical music with an important message about saving the earths people. AfroBeat is a cross of funk, jazz, salsa, and calypso. In 1970's Africa was still corrupt, so Fela used his music to get people to get back to their cultural norms: self-pride, self-reliance, and decency. Fela hated the ways of Western civilization, capitalism, and communism. He used his songs to rebel against the wrong doing in his country with the words of his songs. People loved him for not being afraid of the government, hence why he was a huge success.
King Sunny Ade
King Sunny Ade is well known for playing juju music. He played many instruments some being the talking drum and guitar. He also brought the pedal steel guitar to Nigerian pop music. He used poetic lyrics from the age old tradition ("Ewi" in Yoruba) and components of Juju.
